Treating Emotional Regulation and Mental Health Issues in Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum
Speaker: Shana Nichols, PhD
Youth and adults with ASDs often experience social and emotional difficulties that may lead to significant mental health issues including impaired self esteem, stress, anxiety and depression, post-traumatic symptoms and difficulties managing frustration and anger. Using video, case presentations and materials from her clinic program, this course will focus on understanding the emotional world of individuals with ASDs, learning how to engage clients in counseling, and understanding how the key components of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) may be adapted for use with learners with ASDs.
